Dawson seeks greater profitability for D1 farmers and fishers

First District candidate for the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), Dr Karl Dawson is seeking to deliver greater profitability to the livelihoods of agriculture workers in the constituency through a weekly culture day in Carrot Bay.
He proposed this among other ideas at his official launch in Capoon’s Bay last evening, stating that the weekly event will build on the district’s reputation as the so-called ‘cultural capital of the Virgin Islands’.

Dr Dawson said his proposed culture day will display and sell fresh fruits and vegetables produced in the area. The event will do the same seafood harvested by the district’s fisherfolk.

“It will create greater profitability for those producers in these areas. Brothers and sisters this is not a pipe dream. I pledge to you with your help and my efforts this will be a reality within four months if you elect me into office within the First District,” Dawson said, adding that persons have responded positively to the idea, so far.

Expanding Nurse Theresa Biden Clinic

Dr Dawson said he would also press for the expansion of the Capoon’s Bay-bay Nurse Theresa Biden Clinic into a polyclinic to serve the entire western and north side areas, up to Cane Garden Bay.

This is in keeping with his ambition to bring greater to services to the district, and in that vein, Dr Dawson noted that he will also press for the restoration of the Abraham Leonard Community Centre that he said has been abandoned since being damaged by hurricanes Irma and Maria back in 2017.

He further promised to bat for the timely completion of the West End Ferry Terminal redevelopment project currently underway.

If elected, Dr Dawson would replace former premier Andrew Fahie as that district’s political representative. Fahie, who held the First district seat for more than two decades, is currently on house arrest in the United States while he awaits trial for drug and money laundering-related charges.

Dr Dawson said he hopes the former premier gets a fair trial.
