Dr. Arliene Penn To Deliver Feature Address At Nat'l Cancer Survivor's Day

Director of Communications in the Premier Office Mrs. Arliene Penn will be delivering the feature address during the BVI Cancer Society’s upcoming National Cancer Survivor’s Day slated for tomorrow, June 8.
A press release from the organization said the event will be held under the theme “A Celebration of Life,” and it will be hosted at Irvine’s Place on Main Street, adjacent to VP’s Bank.

“The guest speaker will be Dr. Arliene T. Penn, a 17-year cancer survivor. She will address cancer survivors, their families and persons in the BVI who are currently going through the cancer experience,” the release said.

“I am very confident that Dr. Penn will be dynamic because she is a survivor and we need to hear that message about survivorship! When people think that you are diagnosed with Cancer they think that you have a death sentence, and really don’t believe that,” President of the BVI Cancer Society, Ms Gloria Fahie said.

She continued: “I believe in fighting with all our might. She must have done something right to be a survivor for such a long time, and people who are going through it just need to hear the experiences of others. In this case, we are pleased that Dr. Penn has agreed to share her story which we believe will help to change the life of someone.”

Mrs. Fahie also urged persons to come out and show their support for patients and survivors as cancer continues to affect many local families.

In addition, Minister for Health Honourable Carvin Malone will be expected to deliver brief remarks at the event.

“There will be a releasing of balloons in memory of those who have passed, and in celebration of the life of those who are going through the experience,” the statement informed.
