East End Bridge severely compromised; motorists told to drive with caution

Motorists in the Virgin Islands (VI) are being told to traverse the Blackburn Highway in the vicinity of Alphonso‘s Gas Station in East End and Parham Town’s entrance with ‘extreme caution’ as the East End bridge has been discovered to be severely compromised.

This is according to information coming from subject Minister of Transportation, Works, and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) who noted that mobilization to remedy this bridge will include immediate demolition starting tomorrow, Sunday, March 6, 2022.

Heavy equipment and vehicles are also being barred from traversing the bridge.

Alternative route to be used

He added that authorities will also be installing a temporary access road for traffic flow where motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible.

“Effective immediately, heavy equipment is restricted from traversing this area!” Hon Rymer noted while adding that an alternate route will be demarcated during the construction phase.

District representative and Opposition Leader, Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) in a Facebook post highlighting the issues said the Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has been contacted on the severity of the issue and the potential dangers it poses.
