Education Ministry receives 56 electronic tablets to help facilitate virtual learning

The Ministry of Education has received 56 electronic tablets thanks to a recent donation by the Adventist Development & Relief Agency (ADRA).

A media release from ADRA said the devices are geared towards assisting in-need students with virtual learning when the new school year begins.

Education Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley said the donation came at the perfect time.

“We are facing the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, we had to switch to online learning for the safety of our young people. These tablets will be used by these young persons to provide continuity within the education system and to ensure that they continue to learn their lessons and not fall behind as they pursue their God-given purpose in life,” the minister said.

He added: “I am so impressed with this donation by ADRA because we have an agency that recognises that the churches have a responsibility to lend a helping hand and to ensure that beyond the church walls, they are doing God’s work and are helping the development of the society in a very positive way.”

Partnerships needed

Dr Wheatley, who is also the Deputy Premier, further said government welcomes the donation as they need more partnerships with persons in the community.

He, therefore, encouraged other institutions and individuals to continue such generosity aimed at supporting local education and other areas of government.

Meanwhile, recently-appointed Director of ADRA John Williamson said that 32 of the electronic devices will be utilised by public schools while the remaining 24 will be made available for private schools.

“We hope and trust that the students will find these electronic tablets available and suitable for their learning experience due to COVID-19 and the absence of actual teaching in the classroom,” he said.
