Turnbull, Malone clash in House of Assembly

Turnbull, Malone clash in House of Assembly

Minister of Natural Resources and Labour Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull recently engaged Territorial At-Large legislator Carvin Malone in a mini war of words during the debates for the 2023 budget in the House of Assembly recently.
The two legislators clashed after Turnbull concluded his contribution to the debate where he reminisced on the events that led to the formation of the Government of National Unity earlier this year.

After Turnbull’s presentation, Malone rose in the House and criticised Turnbull’s presentation saying, “the honourable member spent 20 minutes of utterance of nothing else but aspirations of other members and had the nerve to ask for additional time.”

In response, Turnbull called Malone a poor communicator who doesn’t know how to express himself clearly. Turnbull also added that the present government is cleaning up the mess created by the last administration of which Malone was a part.

“The At-Large member who sat on the government side for three and a half years — no matter what he says or how he says it, you still won’t understand. Even when he just rose I don’t understand what he said,” Turnbull hit back.

“So Mr Speaker, I thank you again for allowing me to represent the people of the Second District, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour and for allowing me to clean up some of the mess that was left before I came into this position on May 5th,” Turnbull stated.

Deputy Speaker Neville “Sheep” Smith then cautioned both legislators that the budget debate would continue with a presentation from Sixth District Representative, Alvera Maduro-Caines. However the argument between the elected leaders continued even when Maduro-Caines stood to give her contribution.
