Electronic Tagging Proposed for Inmates at HMP Balsam Ghut
Governor John Rankin is awaiting a proposal from the Ministry of Health (MOH) before implementing electronic tags for inmates at His Majesty's Prison (HMP) in Balsam Ghut.
The initiative could potentially reduce the territory's prison population, especially for non-dangerous inmates.
The prison needs assistance with staffing, infrastructure, and rehabilitation, and the UK government is already providing help in these areas.
The implementation of electronic tags is a costly venture that needs to be budgeted for, but financial decisions are beyond the Governor's control.
An experienced UK prison officer from Pentonville Prison is currently assisting the prison superintendent and his team.
