Energy, Tourism & Sports Fishing among talks @ 9th Inter-Virgin Islands meeting

Virgin Islands Premier, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) is leading a delegation in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) for the Ninth Meeting of the Inter-Virgin Islands Council (IVIC), where a number of discussions are being had on areas of mutual interest between the VI and USVI.

Beginning today, September 22, 2022, according to a press release from the Government of the Virgin Islands, 3 of 12 Standing Committees discussed areas of shared interest between the VI and USVI in Energy and Utilities, Tourism and Pleasure Boating and Sports Fishing.

Ahead of the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Premier Mrs Carolyn E. Stoutt Igwe indicated that three committees will make presentations, namely the Committee on Energy and Utilities, the Committee on Tourism and the Committee on Pleasure Boating and Sports Fishing.

The current VI delegation includes Deputy Premier and Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), along with Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8).

Also accompanying the group is Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Honourable Melvin M. Turnbull (R2), Attorney General Honourable Dawn J Smith and some senior public officers.

The Inter Virgin Islands Council was established on Saturday, May 29, 2004, when former USVI Governor, Dr Charles W. Turnbull and then Chief Minister, Dr D. Orlando Smith, OBE, signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding.

The Council’s first meeting convened on St Croix in April 2005.
