Microsoft customers complain Copilot doesn't work as well as ChatGPT

Microsoft says they're not using it right.
Customers have reported that Microsoft's Copilot doesn't perform as well as ChatGPT, suggesting a misunderstanding of their distinct functions.

Microsoft employees have observed that upon using Copilot, customers often expect it to mirror ChatGPT's capabilities, questioning the technology overlap.

Despite such feedback, Microsoft views the adaptation of its Copilot tools—designed to enhance productivity within its suite of business applications—as crucial to transitioning users from free AI chatbots to more specialized, value-driven offerings.

Copilot, integrated with Microsoft 365, distinguishes itself by tapping into private company data for task-specific support, contrasting with ChatGPT's broader internet-based knowledge.

This specialization, including prompt customization training for users, aims to optimize workplace efficiency. However, confusion arises between the "work" version, which accesses internal data, and the "web" version, more akin to ChatGPT.

Microsoft is addressing this by clarifying the functionalities and introducing features like a toggle switch between versions, underlining Copilot's unique blend of AI, web, and company-specific insights.
