Female teen arrested in Paraquita Bay robbery/murder probe

Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) has been informed by sources close to the investigation that a second female has been arrested in relation to the robbery and fatal shooting at Paraquita Bay, Tortola on April 18, 2021.

During the armed robbery, Catherine Pickering was shot in the head and chest, allegedly with an AK-47 rifle and succumbed to her injuries on April 19, 2021.

Four persons were previously charged. Shameek Grant, 28, and Akeem Hopkinson, 22, of Zion Hill were jointly charged with Murder, Robbery, and Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life; Shermar Richardson, 24, was charged for Robbery and female Tyann Smith, 20, of Freshwater Pond was charged with aiding offenders in this incident.

Grant, Hopkinson and Richardson all made their first court appearances and were remanded to prison.

Smith has not yet been placed before the court.

Meanwhile, our newsroom was told today, May 2, 2021, that a second female, an 18-year-old, was arrested on April 28, 2021, on suspicion of Aiding and Abetting.

The teen was also said to have been hospitalised.
