FIFA President Infantino arrives in the British Virgin Islands

On the third day of his tour of the Caribbean, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, accompanied by FIFA Vice-president and Concacaf President Victor Montagliani, arrived in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Welcomed by the British Virgin Islands Football Association (BVIFA) President Andy Bickerton and his team, the FIFA/Concacaf delegation visited the BVIFA Technical Centre under current development and held discussions with the association’s executive committee focusing on the progress of football development projects on the islands.

President Infantino reiterated FIFA’s support to football development initiatives throughout its 211 member associations and encouraged BVIFA to make the best use of FIFA Forward funds by investing in the development of our sport.

“When we invest in football, we invest in the community, and the results are clearly visible on the pitch and off the pitch here in the British Virgin Islands. I congratulate the BVIFA for the work done and encourage them to continue on this path, investing in facilities and pitches, as well as in competitions.”

The programme of the visit also included an audience with the Premier of the British Virgin Islands Andrew A. Fahie, as well as with the Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Sports, Fisheries Natalio Wheatly, with whom they could discuss how to best move forward with football on the islands.
