First-ever Agri-Health & Wellness Expo being held in BVI

First-ever Agri-Health & Wellness Expo being held in BVI

An event being promoted as the territory’s first-ever Agri-Health & Wellness Expo is to be held on the main island of Tortola this month.

The wellness event is scheduled to be held at the Transformation Church International on Saturday, November 30 and will run from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

Co-organiser of the event Maureen Smith Creque said the expo is being held so people could begin to “take more command of their health”.

“The expo is our way of doing our part to equip the community with the necessary knowledge, expertise and strategies that can assist them to manage their own health,” Smith Creque said.

Six speakers

The event will feature six speakers including Medical Director of National Health Insurance, Dr Harlan Vanterpool; Health Promotions Officer and Focal Point for non-communicable diseases, Ivy George; and Apostle Curnal Fahie who will address the relationship between physical health and spiritual health.

“Also included on the lineup is Financial Specialist, Mr Trevaughn Smith who will tackle how personal finances impact health, Co-organizer and Certified Horticulturist, Mrs Arona Forbes will concentrate on gardening as a part of wellness and Ms Maureen Smith will speak to the importance of managing stress,” a media release promoting the event said.

In the meantime, one of the said organisers, Forbes, is now advocating for agriculture to be “recognized as an essential part of health and wellness”.

“Agriculture has been placed on the backburner for a long time. As the population ages, we see the number of diseases that are food-related for lack of proper nutrition. It is very important for persons to come out and learn more about how to rediscover our agriculture roots and go back to the garden to plant fresh fruits and vegetables so that our nutrition can be enhanced. We want to bring back greenery to the BVI,” Forbes noted.

The expo will also present opportunities for stakeholders to reserve a space to network and promote their products and services.

The aforesaid media release stated that “business owners and vendors who are interested in renting a table can contact Ms Arona Forbes at 284-4401509 by Friday, November 15 for registration information”.
