First Time! Gov't Advertises For Several Board Positions

The Government of the Virgin Islands has commenced a recruitment drive for persons to sit as members of the various boards and commissions.
This is the first time that the roles are being actively advertised to attract a broad selection of candidates who will be interviewed and chosen based on merit, prior experience and competence in the sector.

Acting Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley said Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie has been quite keen to see advertisements go forward to aid in recruiting persons to further strengthen BVI's Governance systems, economy and its people.

“The advertising of members of the board is Government’s ongoing efforts to further strengthen transparency and accountability in the Virgin Islands. We are preparing the BVI for a new, brighter and more resilient future,” Dr. the Honourable Wheatley said.

He added, “This journey is ongoing and includes other areas such as suite of good governance legislations as these efforts are being balanced with further strengthening of our economy while balancing lives with livelihood in this ‘New Regular’ of living and working with COVID-19.”

Dr. the Honourable Wheatley said he is urging residents to seriously consider putting themselves forward for these roles. “We have a wealth of experience among us, and highly motivated people, who like me, strive for the betterment of these Islands. We are grateful for the contribution of the current board members and hope they will be further strengthened by new appointees,” he said.

Members of the boards and commissions in the Virgin Islands are appointed in order to consult on the proper running of the institution, and are being sought for the BVI Airports Authority, BVI Ports Authority, Prospect Reef Resort, Gambling (Gaming and Betting) Control Commission and Virgin Islands Trade Commission.

Current serving members in positions will be given the opportunity to apply; however, each candidate will be reviewed independently and on the basis of the same criteria to ensure a fair process and transparency. Candidates have until June 15 to submit applications.
