Fisherman's Wharf In Honour Of The Late Hon. Omar Hodge

Fisherman's Wharf In Honour Of The Late Hon. Omar Hodge

Former Sixth District Representative Omar Hodge who served his constituents for decades will be honoured with the erecting of a statue and the renaming of the Baugher's Bay fisherman’s wharf his honour.
The announcement was made by current Sixth District Representative Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines during an Opposition press conference that was held on November 13.

The Sixth District Representative told the media that the work on the fisherman’s wharf, which is a signature Sixth District project is moving forward.

“We are doing a lot of work on the Fisherman’s Wharf hopefully by February next year it would be completed. There’s still some fencing to be done and a statue of Hon. Omar Hodge would be erected somewhere on that property. We will name it Omar Hodge Fisherman’s Wharf,” the District Representative announced.

In the past Hon. Maduro-Caines lamented that various matters were stalling the completion of the works she has planned for the Wharf. One such was the dumping of derelict vehicles on the site. The Representative complained about this occurrence up to August 2018.

At that time the District Representative announced in the House of Assembly that she is ready to take actions against the persons who refuse to remove those items. She said that it had gotten to the point of action because appeals failed.

Hon. Maduro-Caines said, “I am making means to finish the project on the Baughers Bay Fisherman's wharf. I have sent out three notices for persons to remove trailers, old boats, containers from on that strip of land and adjacent to the Fisherman's Wharf. I am going to make my final appeal – get with the departments to put stickers on these items that are there that are holding back the progress of getting that fisherman's wharf sorted out.”

The District Representative noted that she has tried repeatedly to commence the project by clearing the area but each time the call is made for the items to be moved nothing happens.
