Four charged for murder from fatal shooting of Matthew Daly

Four men have now been charged for the murder of Matthew Daly who was fatally shot during an incident in Spring Ghut back in September of last year.
The accused murderers are 29-year-old Edward Crook and 25-year-old Dejshon Benjamin of East End, 36-year-old Sea Cow’s Bay resident Micah Ormond, and 26-year-old K’Vawn Choucoutou of Cane Garden Bay.

The Major Crime Team of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said they laid the charges late last night after what they described as “an extensive year-long investigation”.

According to a police media release issued this morning, Head of the Major Crime Team Detective Inspector Jumo Shortte said he and his team were “forced to explore many lines of inquiry and combed through an enormous amount of evidence before making these arrests”.

He further noted in the release that such “resolute efforts continue to demonstrate the persistence of officers of the RVIPF to bring murderers to justice”. Detective Inspector Shortte then appealed to members of the public who may have information regarding any murders to come forward.

“There are a number of unsolved murders in the territory which are still active and there are persons out there with information that can help with these investigations. We are willing and waiting to hear from you. We promise to handle your information with the highest level of confidentiality and highly regard the safety and security of all those who provide this information to us,” Inspector Shortte said.

Persons with information can contact the Major Crime Unit directly at 284-368-5682 or the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 284-368-9339.

As it relates to Daly’s murder, police said he was driving in the Spring Ghut area on September 10 of last year when he was fatally wounded. His body and vehicle were later discovered in the area.
