G7 Ministers to Address ICC Warrant for Netanyahu

Controversial ICC Decision Sparks Debate Among International Leaders
G7 ministers are set to discuss the International Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during their meeting next week in Fiuggi, near Rome.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced on Friday that the warrant, issued by the ICC on Thursday, necessitates further analysis.

The decision by the ICC has faced backlash from Israel and its allies, while being welcomed by Turkey and several rights groups.

Within Italy's hard-right coalition government, opinions are divided: Defence Minister Guido Crosetto suggested Italy would need to comply with the ICC's warrant if Netanyahu visited, whereas Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini expressed that Netanyahu would be welcome in Italy.

Prime Minister Meloni remarked on the need for objectivity in the ICC's reasons, distancing them from political influences.

The G7 foreign ministers will address this issue in their upcoming discussions, as well as the ICC's warrants against Netanyahu’s former defense minister and Hamas's military chief, Mohammed Deif.

Meloni also emphasized that her government sees a clear distinction between the state of Israel and the organization Hamas.
