Getting projects done ‘like pulling teeth’ — Maduro-Caines

Sixth District Representative Alvera Maduro-Caines has expressed frustration at being unable to get projects started within her constituency.
During the recent budget debate, the Junior Minister for Tourism described the task as being similar to that of a dental extraction procedure.

“The process to get these projects done is like pulling teeth. I do not understand. If the money’s there, why you have to pull somebody’s teeth to get them done? Somebody needs to put fire under somebody’s foot or feet, whoever is holding up the process. It’s ridiculous,” Maduro-Caines said.

She explained that residents of her district have been awaiting road repairs in their neighbourhood since the 2017 hurricanes.

The Junior Minister expressed disappointment about the long awaited wall and roadworks project in Baughers Bay near the Alexandria Maduro Primary School which she said appeared once again in this year’s budget as a line item.

Maduro-Caines further explained that she has other projects in her district that are yet to commence and said she was now prepared to fight, instead of sitting through another year waiting for projects to be done.

“I’ve had this being put in the budget year after year and for some reason the ministry and the department can’t get it done. And it’s not for the lack of of begging and arguing and pushing. I’m not up to arguing and pushing and begging [this] year. I’m telling you. Maybe I might be up to fighting, but I know I ain’t up to arguing,” she said.

“I do not understand why things are budgeted for, they’re in line items, some of them, and you still have to fight and fuss with departments and ministries to get these projects done,” she added.
