'Give love this Christmas': 'Santa' Fahie encourages territory!

Dressed in a Santa Claus costume and bearing gifts, Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie told hundreds of residents who were serenaded at the first 'Premier’s Christmas Extravaganza with a Cultural Twist' at Festival Grounds on Saturday 12 December 2020, to spread love this season.

According to the Premier, love is invaluable but yet inexpensive and can be shared by everyone.

“I want you during this season of joy to spread the one thing that you don’t need money for, which is love. You don’t need money to buy love and even if you have money you can’t buy true love. So make sure you have love in your heart, yes you will have the need for finances, but I have met some miserable rich people, and I have seen some people on the television with all the money in the world, and it couldn’t save them from COVID-19.

“So the love of God has to be in your heart this season. Do you know a loving word could cheer up one woman, one man, one child?” he said.

God has been good to us!

The Premier also told the large and festive crowd that there was a lot to be thankful for, pointing to the low Coronavirus numbers in the territory and the territory being spared from any major weather event this year.

“I am glad that you made it here all masked up. We had a tough year this year, but God has seen us through. This year could have been worse but God has seen us through, we could have had another hurricane like Irma and Maria, but he knows we couldn’t bear nothing else but because we didn’t have it a lot of persons don’t thank as much because you didn’t experience it, but when we look all around us, most of the world cannot even come out like this right now,” he pointed out.

The Premier was accompanied by his wife Mrs Sheila E. Forbes-Fahie, who was dressed as Mrs Claus, while a host of musical groups such as Zion Sounds, Joyous Singers, the Jost van Dyke group, the North Sound Group from Virgin Gorda, Leon and the Hot Shots, Band of Faith, Foggy Mountain Boys, and Virgin Gorda Valley Scratch Band serenaded the audience for hours.

Premier Fahie, who is a member of the Joyous Singers from the First Electoral District, was called to join the group to sing Christmas carols.

He later obliged Leon and the Hot Shots group to help him show off his dance moves to an appreciative audience.

A traditional Christmas meal, that included tarts, ham, drinks and other items, was also served at no cost to attendees.
