Gov’t calls stakeholders meeting as COVID cases hover near 1400 mark

As the territory’s active COVID cases surpass the 1,300 mark, the Ministry of Health and the Health Emergency Operations Center will be hosting a virtual stakeholder meeting today, January 13 from 2:30 pm to 5:30.

In a press release issued yesterday, government said the meeting was being held to inform stakeholders of the current and emerging COVID-19 surge and its impact territory-wide.

The latest COVID-19 statistics place the territory’s active case count at 1,387.

Tortola continues to lead the rise in cases at 1,094 persons, with 232 reported cases on Virgin Gorda and four cases on Jost Van Dyke, which has seen no change since the last report.

Notably, cases have tripled on Anegada, moving from 19 several days ago to 57 cases as published in the Health Ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard released yesterday at 6 pm.

Gov’t to share economic measures considered by Cabinet

Meanwhile, Health Minister Carvin Malone has said: “We want to engage with the key sectors to give them an update on what is happening with regards to COVID-19 while providing a forum for them to share their concerns and suggestions.”

The meeting will also provide an opportunity for participants to be updated and informed of existing and proposed health protocols and economic measures being considered by Cabinet, the release said.

“We want to make sure that we give this opportunity to stakeholders to have an input in the way we move forward with the management of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Minister Malone stated.
