The government is modernising its Labour laws and will be spending at least $24,000 to do it.
That money will be paid to an Italian university professor, Michele Tiraboschi who has been hired to provide consultancy services for the project.
Tiraboschi is required to collaborate with the Attorney General Chambers to draft a “revised and simplified” Labour Code for
the Virgin Islands.
His duties also include drafting Labour regulations for the territory’s construction and marine industries.
He is further required to develop a National Organisation Health & Safety regulation consistent with the International Labour Organisation standards.
Tiraboschi’s consultancy took effect March 24 this year.
He is or has served as a Professor of Labour Law & Industrial Relations at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy.
