Gov’ts vaccination drive is no fear-mongering exercise - Hon Malone

Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has assured the Virgin Islands (VI) public that the Government’s vaccination drive is not one of fear-mongering, rather, a move to protect lives in the territory.

Hon Malone speaking on the Tuesday May 4, 2021, edition of VIP Let’s Talk on ZBVI 780am assured that vaccinations will not be made mandatory and said the government will continue to make vaccinations a priority.

“We are going to do everything that is possible, to give people the opportunity, the choice, education, so they can make a decision as to what exactly the vaccine is,” he said.

The Minister said that the territory has had the opportunity to get vaccines and secure supplies as such, there are no shortages of vaccines at the moment.

“We want to make sure that at the end of the day, we do not leave our people out, we cannot stop the plane from doing what they would do, this is not a fear-mongering exercise this is one that deals with reality,” Hon Malone said.

While the vaccines will not be made mandatory, Hon Malone said the world is moving to a point where you cannot access air travel without being vaccinated, in addition to more roadblocks in other areas.

“There are a lot of impediments that will be brought your way,” he added.

Assuring that vaccinations will not be made mandatory, Hon Malone speaking on the Tuesday May 4, 2021, edition of VIP Let’s Talk on ZBVI 780am said the government will continue to make vaccinations a priority.

The Health Minister called for persons across the VI to get vaccinated now, noting that should there be a shortage, persons will blame the government for not providing doses.

He said across the region in places like Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, these countries continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic with high infection rates.

While the territory has had low cases and a good handling of the pandemic, Hon Malone said the situation in the VI could change ‘in a dime’ as such and he urged the populace to continue following the COVID-19 protocols and getting vaccinated.
