Governor ranking inducted into Lions Club of Tortola as honorary Lion

Governor John Rankin is now an Honorary Lion of the Lions Club of Tortola after he was recently inducted into the Lions Club of Tortola in keeping with the Club’s long-standing tradition.
This was confirmed in a media release from the Club, which said the Governor was inducted on June 15, 2021 by outgoing Membership Chair, Lion Maria Vieira during the Club’s Awards Ceremony.

Speaking on the induction, Viera updated Governor Rankin on the international and local works of the Club.

She said, “You have been invited to become a member and we are extremely proud that you have accepted membership into our Club and Lions Club International. Membership in a Lions Club is a privilege and you have joined the world’s largest and most active service Clubs organization.”

“Through your membership you will help our Club reach out to the community and people in need,” she added.

Governor Rankin in response said he was privileged to be sworn in as an honorary member and said he had noticed the works of other Lions across the previous jurisdictions he served which included the United States, Ireland, South Asia and Bermuda.

He said, “Coming here and learning more about your service is also a privilege because of my job as governor and also because I am keenly aware of the challenges this country has been through particularly since 2017 and the hurricanes of Irma and Maria. My job as governor is to serve, my job is to do my best to help BVI and its people, working with my office, working with the UK government and working with the elected government here and the Ministers.”

The Lions Club of Tortola has been serving the local community for the past 49 years. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at the BVI Finance Conference Room on the 3rd Floor of the Cutlass Building. Persons seeking more information on how to get involved can visit the Club’s Facebook Page; or contact any Club Member or incoming Membership Chair Mrs. Abeana Baptiste-Phillip.
