Guardians refusing to quarantine with unaccompanied minors- Hon Malone

Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has revealed that guardians of unaccompanied young children who travel to the territory amidst the COVID-19 pandemic have been refusing to quarantine.

“Issues have arisen when the guardians who come to collect them then refuse to be quarantined with these minors or refuse to pay for quarantine devices for these minors,” he said during a Monday, September 20, 2021, COVID-19 update.

As such, the minister said Cabinet has enacted measures to bring a solution to these challenges.

“Cabinet decided that where an unaccompanied minor, who is unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, arrive at the port of entry, they, along with the parent or guardian, must be subject to quarantine and exit testing at the same time as the unaccompanied minor.”

Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Carvin Malone said Cabinet has enacted measures to force compliance with the public health measures.

Law will dictate & guide expectations - Hon Malone

“Again, where there are issues of non-compliance and non-cooperation, we must let the law dictate and guide expectations,” Hon Malone said.

As of September 20, 2021, the VI has 47 active COVID-19 cases. 12 were discovered on entry testing.

35 of the 47 active cases have been discovered in the VI community.
