Guyanese Community in BVI to Hold Vigil for Victims of Deadly School Fire
The Guyanese community in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) will be holding a vigil on May 26 to pay tribute to the 19 students who died in a fire in Mahdia, Guyana earlier this week.
The fire broke out in a dormitory at a secondary school and investigators believe it may have been started maliciously.
Several people were injured and are receiving treatment at hospital.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has expressed its condolences to all those affected by the incident.
The Heads of Government of CARICOM have also mobilized resources to support the recovery process in Guyana.
The BVI community is invited to join the vigil at the Cyril B.
Romney Tortola Pier Park at 6 pm.
The event will involve the use of candles, cell phone lights or simple torches.
