Abdallah Maki Mosleh al-Rifai, commonly referred to as 'Abu Khadija,' has been confirmed dead following a U.S.-Iraqi military operation.
Abdallah Maki Mosleh al-Rifai, recognized as a senior figure in the Islamic State (ISIS), was killed during a military operation in Iraq, as reported by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Friday.
Al-Rifai, also known by the alias 'Abu Khadija,' was said to have been eliminated in a coordinated action that involved the Iraqi national intelligence service and forces from the U.S.-led coalition.
Prime Minister al-Sudani described al-Rifai as one of the most hazardous terrorists operating both in Iraq and globally.
U.S. President
Donald Trump acknowledged the mission through a message on his social media platform, labeling al-Rifai’s life as 'miserable' and claiming that he was 'relentlessly hunted down by our brave warfighters.' Trump's remarks also confirmed that the operation led to the death of another ISIS member.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the airstrike that resulted in al-Rifai's death occurred in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
CENTCOM referred to al-Rifai as the 'Global ISIS #2 leader' and outlined his responsibilities, which included overseeing operations, logistics, and financial management within the international ISIS network.
After the airstrike, U.S. and Iraqi military forces moved to the location and found deceased ISIS operatives equipped with unexploded suicide vests, suggesting they were prepared for potential assaults.
Al-Rifai’s identification was achieved through DNA evidence obtained during a previous operation where he had managed to escape capture.
General Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of CENTCOM, underscored al-Rifai’s significance within ISIS, highlighting his high-ranking position within the organization’s leadership.
He reiterated the dedication of U.S. and allied forces to eradicate the threats posed by terrorist groups in the region and beyond.
