Historic! Darel Christopher Jr signs for French pro cycling team

Some Virgin Islands cycling history has been created, with Darel Christopher Jr becoming the first cyclist from the VI to sign a contract to ride for a professional cycling team in France.

Christopher Jr inked the contract with Sprinter Nice Metropole on Thursday, February 3, 2022, in Nice, France.

The details of the contract; however, were not made known to this news site.

According to the BVI Cycling Federation (BVICF), the French club, in October 2021, had offered Christopher Jr the opportunity due to his dedication to cycling and his accomplishments in the sport.

Tour de France dreams


Sprinter Nice Metropole is seeking to qualify for the pinnacle of cycling championships, the Tour de France, in 2022.

Christopher Jr has raced with several cycling teams in the past including SCC, Pharmaco Deep South, EPTC and Evolution Cycling in the United States.

The Virgin Islander is now hoping to compete in the world-renowned Tour de France.
