HLSCC installs all-weather multi-purpose game court @ Paraquita Bay campus

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) is boasting a new all-weather multi-purpose game court at its campus in Paraquita Bay, Tortola.
The 50' x 105' court, made possible through a grant from Unite BVI, was installed late last year.

It will facilitate basketball/netball, volleyball, tennis, and futsal.

According to the College, in a Facebook post, the court, which only took the HLSCC Facilities Department four days to set-up, comes with a 16-year warranty and UV protection.

Purpose of the court

“Starting in Spring 2023, the game court will be utilised by HLSCC students for intramural sports. In the summer of 2023, the College will explore leasing out the court to sporting associations and community groups. Students participating in the College's summer Camp will also make use of the game court,” HLSCC informed.

HLSCC’s Student Life Officer Mr Patrick Smith shared that the project was a collaborative effort across the board. He recognised Director of Student Life Ms Debra Hodge, Administration for the greenlight, Yanique Smith, HLSCC departments such as Fiscal and Facilities and non-profit organisation UNITE BVI for the funding.

He said, “Student Life is all about providing a positive outlet for our students. When I transferred from the Department of Information Technology to the Office of Student Life, my first priority was to bring back life to the campus and my first mandate was to get our own facility for our students.”

Meanwhile, an opening ceremony for the facility will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

A brief demonstration game is to follow.
