HoA meets today; Public Procurement Act 2021 to be debated

HoA meets today; Public Procurement Act 2021 to be debated

The 12th Sitting of the 3rd Session of the 4th House of Assembly (HoA) is scheduled to continue at 10:00 am today, Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola.

The Public Procurement Act 2021 will be debated at this Sitting, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has stated.

Speaking to Mr Andre Gaymes aka DJ Dre on ZVCR 106.9 FM on October 27, 2021, following the strike by some teachers of Elmore Stoutt High School’s Junior Division, Dr Wheatley had informed about the Public Procurement Act 2021 being debated.

He was at the time making the point that more Virgin Islanders need to pay attention to the various acts being debated and passed as that will help them to understand how the system works and what are some of the challenges that the government may face with getting certain things done on a timely basis.

Will HoA get many views as CoI?

“We have a Procurement Act. We going into the House of Assembly on Thursday and we going to be debating a Procurement Act. Will we be having as many persons pay attention to the content of that Procurement Act to who paid attention to the CoI? Now that (Act) will become law and that is going to impact the people in some way.

“How many persons read the Procurement Act, which is a public document?” Dr Wheatley asked, as he reminded that any document laid in the House of Assembly after a First Reading, becomes a public document and persons are expected to read it and “to speak to their representatives to make sure their representatives represent their views in the debate that is about to take place on Thursday.”

Meanwhile, today’s sitting will be live-streamed on the House of Assembly’s YouTube page, Facebook, ZBVI 780 AM, CBN 90.9 FM and Flow TV – Channel 101.
