HoA officially dissolved by Gov Rankin, proclamation gazetted

Just as was first and accurately reported by our news center, the House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands was dissolved on Friday, March 10, 2023.

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) wrote Governor John J. Ranking with the request and the governor has carried out the wishes of the Premier in accordance with Section 84 (2) of the Virgin Islands Constitution.

The House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands will be dissolved on Friday, March 10, 2023, according to reports reaching our newsroom.



It’s official!

A special Gazette was published last evening March 10, 2023, with the proclamation giving the date of March 10, 2023 when the Fourth HoA was dissolved.

Under the Constitution, Section 86, the election now must be held within a minimum of 21 days or a maximum of 60 days but cannot go beyond May 12, 2023.

The Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Wheatley is the only one who can decide an election date.
