HoA returns today with Speech from the Throne & new legislation

The Virgin Islands' House of Assembly (HoA) will return today, January 18, 2022, at the Save the Seed Energy Centre with the highly anticipated Speech from the Throne written by the Government and delivered by the Governor.

According to the HoA order paper, at today’s First Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Fourth HoA in the VI, the Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) will move a motion that invites His Excellency, the Governor, to appear and make an address.

Today’s reading will also see the Introduction and First Reading of the Bills entitled, Liquor Licences Act, 2019, the Police Act, 2019, the Business Licensing Act, 2020.

Additional introductions will come for the Water and Sewerage Authority Act, 2021, and the Child Maintenance and Access (Amendment) Act, 2021.

While the reading of the Speech from the Throne is usually delivered to a packed House, HoA Speaker Hon Julian Willock has indicated that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, persons this year will have to watch the proceedings virtually.

The HoA can be viewed via a live-streamed on their YouTube page and Facebook, on radio ZBVI 780 AM and CBN 90.9 FM in addition to Flow TV – Channel 101.
