Hon Flax-Charles calls for protection of children as VI welcomes 2020
Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development, Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL) took the opportunity to call on thousands of revellers at Trellis Bay, Beef Island, to protect the Territory’s children.
The revellers were ringing in the New Year at the famous seaside near Trellis Bay Market on Beef Island shortly before midnight on Tuesday December 31, 2019.
“We have to protect all children, and all of you have a part to play to ensure that our children don’t suffer abuse,” she said.
She added: “Whether physical or sexual, we must ensure that we protect our children.”
Flax-Charles and The Secret Band then proceeded to sing the well-known song ‘Dutty Man.’
The song is about condemning paedophiles in society who prey on school children.
In the meantime, revellers danced and partied to live entertainment until the wee hours of Wednesday, January 1, 2020.
There was a display of fireworks in the bay, which drew loud cheers at the stroke of midnight.
