Hon Fraser Basketball League cancelled for 3rd consecutive year

Hon Fraser Basketball League cancelled for 3rd consecutive year

For the third year running, the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League has been cancelled.

In 2020 and 2021, the reasons for the league being cancelled were due to COVID-19; however, this year the unavailability of the playing venue, the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, was given as the reason for the cancellation.

“Even at this late stage, we have withheld announcements with the hopes of having our League as planned with the late August opening. As you may not be aware, through temporary arrangements the same facility we utilise at Save The Seed Energy Center has been home for the House of Assembly since the Pandemic started, and the faith of our League depends on this arrangement.

The unavailability of the Save the Seed Energy Centre has been given as the reason for the cancellation of the 2022 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed League.

Chairperson of the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed League Committee, Mrs Kharid T. Fraser stated in a press release on June 6, 2022, that the League looks forward to celebrating eleven years of success next year during the 2023 League.

Regrettable cancellation

“Regrettably, because the situation at the facility persists, the Directors of The League, upon the advice of the Committee, have taken the decision to cancel the 2022 League,” Committee Chair Kharid T. Fraser stated in a press release on June 6, 2022.

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the popular Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League.

“The League looks forward to celebrating eleven years of success next year during the 2023 League,” Mrs Fraser added.

She concluded that the League Directors continue to thank the sponsors, fans, players, and committee members for their commitment to the league and to basketball within the Territory.

The last Hon Fraser League held, in 2019, was won by Pure Playaz.
