How to Set Up a Chic Shed in a Single Weekend

How to Set Up a Chic Shed in a Single Weekend

Want a more blissful backyard space? Try this weekend project.

In the spring of 2018, Country Living editors took on the task of sprucing up one lucky backyard by fitting it out with a chic she shed. We gave ourselves 48 hours. Here's what we did.

We started with this gambrel-roofed Heartland Estate Shed (available at Lowe’s), and added a cute barn quilt!

As the primary furnishing, we created a swing out of an upholstered blue sofa from Chairloom and accented it with floral pillows from Rifle Paper Co. It's set up facing the lawn, making it easy to watch games of croquet and badminton. DIY shuttlecock-covered string lights add another sporty touch.

To keep the interior cozy we hung a happy checkered fabric. We chose Georgica Pond Rhubarb by Robert Allen. To keep the installation simple, we secured a rope across the peak of the shed and draped the fabric over, then simply used a staple gun to attach the fabric to the walls. This shed required about 30 yards of fabric.

Every she shed needs a place to store reading material! Instead of bookshelves, we turned a galvanized feed trough on its side and mounted it to the wall with 1.5" screws.

Last, we added a few decorative touches, including a rattan bar cart, an abaca rug, and a decorative basket to offset the bold walls.
