Illegal immigrants captured last week escape

Three of the seven illegal immigrants detained at Great Thatch last week have escaped the custody of immigration officers.
Highly placed sources told our news centre the detainees were being housed at the Immigration Detention Center at Hotel Castle Maria.

BVI News understands that over the weekend, security officers discovered the three men missing and called the police.

It is further understood that the men had pried open a metal door that leads to the ground floor and made their escape.

Last Friday the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) reported that seven illegal immigrants were captured on Great Thatch after notification from the US Coast Guard of a suspicious vessel in BVI waters.

Six nationals of Cuba and one national of St. Kitts and Nevis were detained including a nine-month-old infant.

The 50’ monohull sailboat, believed to be the vessel that transported the seven, was recovered in waters nearby.
