Iranian Woman's Protest at University Sparks Concern

Amid Detention and Disappearance, Questions Arise Over Her Well-being
A young Iranian woman made headlines after stripping to her underwear on the grounds of Tehran's Islamic Azad University, seemingly to protest against Iran's strict dress code for women.

Captured on video, the incident shocked onlookers and quickly went viral, casting her in the role of a feminist symbol.

However, she was subsequently detained by security personnel and her whereabouts remain unknown, sparking widespread concern.

The woman's identity has not been disclosed.

Amir Mahjob, a university spokesperson, suggested that she was experiencing significant mental stress following a personal separation and was dealing with a 'mental disorder.' Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the incident, with some suggesting she was harassed by Basij members for dress code violations, while others claim no confrontation took place with security.

Amidst fears for her safety, Amnesty International called for her immediate release and an investigation into the allegations of violence, noting her violent arrest.

Iranian activist Hossein Ronaghi praised the woman’s courageous act as emblematic of resistance against government repression.

This event unfolds against the backdrop of growing resistance to Iran's dress code, reminiscent of protests following the 2022 death of Mahsa Amini, which led to widespread civil unrest.

Despite claims that she was taken to a police station, her current condition and location remain unclear.
