JERRY STRENGTHENS TO HURRICANE

As of the 11:00 am forecast update, the National Hurricane Centre is advising that Jerry has reached hurricane strength with maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour.

Hurricane Jerry is currently located about 490 miles east of the Leeward Islands, with Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Martin, St. Maarten, St. Barthelemy, and Saba and St. Eustatius remaining on Tropical Storm Watch. On the current forecast track, the center of Jerry will be near or north of the northern Leeward Islands tomorrow, pass north of Puerto Rico on Saturday, and east of the southeastern Bahamas on Sunday, according to the NHC.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 10 miles from the center of the storm and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles. An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft recently observed a minimum central pressure of 988 mb (or 29.18 inches).

Impact on the British Virgin Islands

• Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches; with up to 4 to 6 inches possible in Anegada
• Rough sea conditions especially on northern coasts
• Gusty winds
