Joint services conduct early morning search @HMP
Information reaching our newsroom from sources at Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) in Balsam Ghut, Tortola, is that there was a search of the prison this morning, June 2, 2021.
The search was reportedly conducted around 6:00am by ranks of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), HM Customs and prison officers.
It is unclear what the search yielded.
The prison search comes on the heels of a stabbing incident on May 30, 2021, that left one inmate dead and 3 others injured.
Our newsroom was also told there is now tension at the prison following prison officers being sent on administrative leave based on recommendations by the National Security Council (NSC) and prisoners reportedly being in possession of prohibited items.
