Kevin C. Smith tipped to be CEO of Digicel BVI

Reports from our sources within the Digicel management unit indicate that former political candidate Mr Kevin C. Smith aka ‘OJ’ has been offered the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of telecommunications company, Digicel BVI.

According to our sources, Mr Smith has accepted the offer and the company is reportedly working out the details and will then make an announcement.

Mr Smith is poised to be the second black person to hold the top position, with Kevin R. Gordon of Jamaica the first. Mr Gordon left Digicel BVI in October this year to form a cyber security company based in the USA.

It will be the second stint for Mr Smith at Digicel BVI as he was hired in December 2013 as the Commercial and Operations Director but left the company in March 2015 to run for political office with the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Mr Smith twice [2011, 2015] ran for office unsuccessfully against Hon Julian Fraser RA in the Third District.

Career

In his earlier career Mr Smith, who is trained as a US Combat Soldier and has worked in the banking sector, was credited for bringing major improvements to the Post Office, and also ensuring that locals have access to obtaining trade licences.

Mr Smith also worked as a government consultant in the Ministry of Finance and served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC).
