King Charles to Travel to Poland for the 80th Anniversary of Auschwitz Liberation
King Charles will participate in the 80th anniversary commemorations of Auschwitz's liberation and meet with Polish officials during his visit.
Later this month, King Charles will travel to Poland to partake in the 80th anniversary ceremonies marking the liberation of Auschwitz, the largest Nazi death camp from World War Two.
Buckingham Palace revealed on Monday that the King will be present at a service on January 27 at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial, which pays homage to the victims of the camp where over 1.1 million people, primarily Jews, were killed during the Holocaust.
During his stay, King Charles will also engage with local community members in Krakow and meet with Poland's President, Andrzej Duda.
This will be the King’s fifth visit to Poland.
Prior to the trip, Charles held a special event at Buckingham Palace, where he met with representatives from three organizations focused on Holocaust education for future generations.
The King also met a 94-year-old Holocaust survivor.
During the event, King Charles lit a candle to honor those who died in the Holocaust and other recent genocides and observed a demonstration of a new AI-powered platform that enables students to interact with Holocaust survivors and learn about their stories.
The evening was rounded off with a musical performance inspired by the accounts of British Holocaust survivors.
King Charles' involvement in these events underscores the ongoing dedication to remembering the Holocaust and educating future generations about its atrocities.
