Labour now making regular visits to sister islands
Noting a case of longstanding neglect of the sister islands, the Protection and Labour Relations units of the Labour Department has scheduled another visit to Jost Van Dyke and Anegada.
A media release from the department said the visits will happen this month but it did not specify the dates.
Upon arrival, Labour officers will “conduct inspections and address any disputes lodged as well as to record complaints voiced by the residents,” the department stated.
Following this month’s visits, the team will return to the sisters in September.
The department said these scheduled visits are in keeping with mandated practices following the launch of an initiative by Labour Minister Vincent Wheatley.
At the time of Labour’s visits in March, Wheatley said the sister islands, over the years, had been “neglected in these areas due to limited financial resources and that the initial visit exposed the need for regular visits”, the department reported.
