Latin America and the Caribbean total more than 6 million cases of covid-19

Latin America and the Caribbean exceeded 6 million cases of covid-19 this Saturday, in the midst of a pandemic that also leaves 237,791 deaths in this region, according to an AFP balance based on official data.
This Saturday, Latin America and the Caribbean accumulated 6,024,075 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, out of a world total of 21.2 million infections.

Brazil, with 3.2 million infections and 106,500 deaths, is the most affected country in the region, followed by Peru (516,296 cases and 25,856 deaths) and Mexico (511,369 infected and 55,908 deaths).

In the last seven days, almost half of the deaths registered in the world by covid-19 have occurred in Latin America and the Caribbean with 21,900 deaths of the 44,400 registered globally.

In the period, between August 8 and 14, Latin America and the Caribbean was also the region that added the most cases of coronavirus in the world, with about 610,000, above the 530,000 in Asia and the 378,000 in the United States and Canada.
