Legislator bats for North Sound admin building to be renamed after late postmaster

Territorial At-Large Representative Shereen Flax-Charles has said she believes the government administrative building in North Sound on Virgin Gorda should be renamed after a former public officer who she says spent his professional life serving that community.
“I would like to see that the building named after John George, Sr who was the postmaster, the tax collector, etcetera, in the North Sound area for many years until his death,” the legislator said. Meanwhile, some of the entities expected to occupy the building once the works have been completed include the post office substation for North Sound, Flax-Charles said. That substation was based inside building before the onslaught of hurricanes Irma and Maria back in September 2017. “I’ve also known that the police will be there and there’s a possibility of a library as well as a space for members of government that might want to have meetings with constituents in that community,” stated Flax-Charles who is also the Junior Minister for Tourism. She said she believes that the project will benefit the residents of the North Sound community significantly and sees it as the stepping stone in getting the community back to what it was before the disasters. “I think it will be a welcomed thing for the people of that district that there would be services that they don’t necessarily need to come into the Valley for. The North Sound community is going to soon start to come to life again once Bitter End and Biras Creek and those properties come back on stream,” the legislator said. The government recently began the tendering process for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the building and has now invited qualified and interested firms to bid on the project. This is one of three similar projects on Virgin Gorda which are currently out for tender by government. The others include the Flax Administration Building rehabilitative project and the Vanterpool Administration Building reconstruction project.
