The boating community and the many fans of the popular Leverick Bay Poker Run have been thrown into a state of mourning with the news that the event founder, Nick R. Willis, has died.

His passing was announced on the Leverick Bay Poker Run Facebook page today, January 27, 2021.

Mr Willis was a well known and well loved figure in the Virgin Islands, where he made his home many years ago.


The Leverick Bay Poker Run, which Nick R. Willis founded with his wife Monica in 2002, has raised thousands of dollars for local charity over the years.

The boating event itself has been a staple on the Virgin Islands tourism calendar and attracts a huge following every time it is held.

While most of the participating boats are from Tortola, boats have entered the charity event from Puerto Rico, United States Virgin Islands, Antigua and Anguilla.

Many persons have since taken to Facebook to express their condolences to the family on his passing, as well as reflect on the man they knew and how much he inspired them.
