Local school bullying suspect arrested & charged– CoP Collins

Commissioner of Police Mark Collins says the suspect has been arrested and charged following the October 12, 2022, revelation of a distraught caller on a morning radio show who bitterly complained of an alleged bullying incident involving her son and another student at a local school.

After complaining of poor handling of the incident by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), the mother had also taken to social media for more traction.

She claimed weapons such as knives, brass knuckles, and broken bottles were used to bully her son.

The frustrated mother revealed that her son was badly injured by the alleged bully and she even has a medical report from the hospital to show.

Many on social media have expressed sympathy to the mother and son and called for the alleged bully to be dealt with swiftly by authorities.

Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) Commissioner of Police, Mr Collins confirmed the suspect in the attacks has been arrested and charged.

Following alleged non-action by the police over the issue, the distraught mother was forced to take to both social media, and ‘Da Morning Braff’ radio show with host Floyd Burnett on Tola Radio 100.5FM to bring awareness to her concerns.

Community policing programme will take effect - ToP CoP

He also indicated that officials at the school have been contacted and the mother updated on the way forward.

“Part of our community policing programme has officers going into schools. I have also spoken at the High School, along with some of my officers,” the Top Cop said when pressed on what further action will be taken by the RVIPF.

CoP Collins also indicated that the force intends to investigate all allegations of bullying in schools.

Following alleged non-action by the police over the issue, the distraught mother was forced to take to both social media, and the popular ‘Da Morning Braff’ radio show with host Floyd Burnett on Tola Radio 100.5FM to bring awareness to her concerns.

The alleged bullying incidents come as the Virgin Islands will be observing Anti-Bullying Week later this month.
