London’s famous Heaven nightclub to give out COVID vaccines

London’s famous Heaven nightclub to give out COVID vaccines

A popular LGBTQ+ inclusive nightclub is set to become the UK’s first club to be turned into a pop-up “vax centre” offering its visitors a dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech jab.

Amy Lamé, London’s Night Czar, confirmed the news on Twitter while Jeremy Joseph, who owns the G-A-Y group of London and Manchester bars, urged Londoners to take up the opportunity.

“Nightclubs have always been part of the Covid solution, and I’m really proud to be working with NHS England, Westminster City Council and Jeremy Joseph to make this happen,” Ms Lamé wrote on the social media app.

The major news comes a week after it was first announce that a clinic is set to open at Thorpe Park in Surrey in a bid to get more young people vaccinated against Covid-19.

Those visiting the theme park will be able to get vaccinated before getting on a rollercoaster.

The pop-up clinic will be offering Pfizer jabs to anyone who has not yet taken up the offer, or second doses to those who are eligible, the NHS said.

A Primark store in Bristol and The Open Golf tournament in Kent are among the other venues being used in the vaccine push

The race to get more young people vaccinated comes as “(cases) in England and Wales have been coming down since July 19,” according to Jamie Jenkins, former head of health statistics at the Office for National Statistics.

He told LBC: “The cases have been falling for a couple of weeks there.

“I think looking at the data, we normally see deaths peaking around 14 days after cases come down, I think we might start being over the hill now when it comes to deaths.”

But the Government announced on Tuesday that a further 138 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, the highest reported daily figure since March 17, bringing the UK total to 129,881.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 155,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 21,691 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.
