Mrs Lorna G. Smith, the wife of former Premier Dr D. Orlando Smith, OBE, has announced she will be contesting the 2023 General Election as an At-Large Candidate.
Smith, who served as the Director of BVI Finance until her retirement in 2019, made the announcement on The Big Story with Cathy O. Wilson on JTV today, February 22, 2023.
The former First Lady has said she is still to decide whether she will be running Independent or with an established political party.
Her husband remains a Member of the National Democratic Party (NDP)
“I do plan to contest the elections as an At-Large Candidate,” Mrs Smith disclosed.
She added: “About two weeks ago I was asked. In fact, I was told that
the story was going to be printed and I said then that I was seriously
considering and today I can tell you that I have made my decision that I
will contest the elections.”

Mrs Smith said she has always been passionate about the [British] Virgin Islands and its people and that she believes the territory and its people deserve the best.
“My mission as a professional has always been to make sure that the Territory of the British Virgin Islands got the best. I am running to fulfill that mission,” Mrs Smith said.
