Man Carrying Suspected Explosives Detained at Iran Embassy in Paris: Police
A man was detained by French authorities on Friday after the Iranian consulate in Paris reported that someone had entered the building with an explosive.
According to a security source who spoke to AFP, a witness had seen the man carrying what appeared to be a grenade or an explosive belt.
The man exited the consulate and is currently being interrogated by police.
The incident led to the closure of the entire neighborhood around the consulate in the 16th district of Paris, with a heavy police presence in the area.
The Paris transport company RATP also suspended traffic on two metro lines that pass through stops near the consulate.
The consulate did not provide any further information on the incident.
The detainee's identity and motives have not been disclosed.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the West, particularly regarding Iran's nuclear program and its involvement in regional conflicts.
