ManJack Creamery reopens due to popular demand

Just over a week after it had given notice that it was closing its doors rather than be forced to hire a local or belonger not a ‘right fit’ for the job, ManJack Creamery announced today, August 20, 2020, it has reopened at the request of its many customers and encouragement from a well-known radio commentator.
“We have heard from our customers and with encouragement from Claude Skelton Cline, ManJack Creamery has reopened. (Thursday),” ManJack Creamery posted on its Facebook page.

The local business establishment, owned by Hezikiah E. Maddox and Deborah Maddox and located in Cutlass Tower in the heart of Road Town, had said on August 10, 2020, it would be closing its doors rather than be forced by the Department of Labour and Workforce Development to hire someone it believed was not a good fit for business.

It had also accused Labour Commissioner Mrs Janice I. F. Rymer of wanting to force the business to hire someone against their wishes.

Their reasons for the closure had drawn the ire of Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R1, who was of the opinion the proprietors of the business were presented with enough locals to fill the position at the establishment and that he was not going to be pressured into going against principles at this time.

Many persons had also taken to Facebook to express their opinion on the matter. Many had also expressed sadness that their favourite ice-cream place was being closed and had pleaded with the owners to reconsider.
