McMaster in 4-member VI team @ NACAC Open C/Ships in Bahamas

The Virgin Islands (VI) will be represented by four athletes at the 2022 NACAC Open Championships, which begins today, August 19, 2022, in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

The VI athletes two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kyron A. McMaster, Eldred Henry, Rikkoi Brathwaite and Kaelyaah Liburd.

The athletes will contest the 400 meter hurdles, the Shot Put, the 100m and the 400m respectively.

The team coach is Coach Erwin Telemaque aka Coach Redz.

President of the BVIAA Steve E. Augustine said while the Virgin Islands team is small in numbers, 'we are pound for pound strong as any of our competitors. They are all well ranked going into the meet and are expected to do well.'


McMaster, Henry & Liburd in action today


Quarter miler Kaelyaah Liburd is expected to contest her event at 9:30 am today; reigning NACAC 400m hurdles champion McMaster will contest his semifinal run at 5:00 pm; and Shot Putter Eldred Henry will contest his event at 7:30pm.

Sprinter Brathwaite will contest the 100m semis on Saturday at 4:50 pm.

President of the BVIAA Steve E. Augustine stated, “while our team is small in numbers, we are pound for pound strong as any of our competitors. They are all well ranked going into the meet and are expected to do well.”

The conclusion of this NACAC OPEN 2022 will bring the BVIAA’s season to an end.
