Media blocked from livestreaming, video recording public meeting @ ESHS tent

The first in a series of public meetings to discuss the already ‘done deal’ ‘Framework for Implementation of the Recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) Report and Other Reforms’ began today, Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Elmore Stoutt High School Tent.

Persons who may have been hoping to join virtually; however, would be unable to do so as the media has been prevented from live-streaming and video recording the event.

Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Carolyn E. Stoutt-Igwe said the reason for that is that members of the public expressed discomfort with “so many cameras around them.”

Stoutt-Igwe noted; however, that the Premier’s Office will be taking notes “as we move from meeting to meeting to make sure that we capture your comments and that we can address them as we move along.”

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), who has chastised the media for reporting on the proposal on the implementation of the CoI recommendations to the UK ahead of its release to the public, has faced harsh criticisms for submitting a final proposal ahead of public consultations; however, he encouraged members of the public to familiarise themselves with the framework prior to the meetings.

Meanwhile, other scheduled dates for public meeting include Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at The Watch House from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and then on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
