Kemi Badenoch, the new leader of the Conservative Party, has appointed Mel Stride as the Shadow Chancellor and Priti Patel as the Shadow Foreign Secretary.

This move is seen as an effort to unite the party, as Stride is a senior figure on the left of the party while Patel is a prominent right-winger.

Both Stride and Patel were candidates in the recent leadership contest.

Stride, formerly the Work and Pensions Secretary, and Patel, previously the Home Secretary, bring significant political experience to their roles.

Patel, who has shown an interest in foreign policy, was once dismissed from her position as International Development Secretary by Theresa May for unofficial meetings with Israeli ministers.

In addition to these appointments, Robert Jenrick has accepted the role of Shadow Justice Secretary.

The new appointments come in the wake of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, congratulating Badenoch on her election victory, reflecting international attention on the party's leadership changes.

Badenoch's selection points towards a strategy focused on party unity and strong leadership opposition against Labour.
